Moving home
Moving out
If you are moving home then remember to notify ScottishPower and provide us with your final electricity and/or gas meter readings. When you arrive at your new home, you should also take your new meter readings and give these to the supplier of your new property.
If you cannot provide the actual meter reading, your new bills will have to be estimated.
You should call our Homemover team on 0845 270 7008
Lines are open: Mon – Fri 8am to 7pm and Saturday 8.30am – 1pm
Your gas payment card is personal to your account, so don’t leave it for the next occupant. You can leave your prepayment key for your electricity meter though, if you have one, since this won’t work in any other meter unless it is reprogrammed with the new account and meter details. If your new home has an electricity key meter and a key has been left, or you have brought your old key from your previous address we can supply you with an 8 digit reference number which you can use to reset the key so it will work in your new meter and payments will go to your new account.
It is important to tell us when you move house so that your old account can be finalised to the correct date and meter reading(s).
If you forget to tell us, your old account will remain active and we could end up billing you for consumption and standing charges after your leaving date.
Moving in
Contact us seven working days before you move in to your new home so we can make sure your electricity or gas supply is connected (allow 10 working days if you’re writing to us).
If you haven’t already made arrangements with us before you move, you must tell us when you start using energy at your new home. Please provide ScottishPower with meter reading(s) so that we can start your account from the correct meter reading(s).

If your new home has a prepayment meter and we’re the supplier, please contact us so we can set up your account properly and also make sure you have the correct payment device for your meter. ScottishPower will send you a new key for your electricity meter if required and/or a gas card for your gas meter by 1st class post.
If the supply is off in your new home when you move in, we would like to help you get the supply on as soon as possible.
The arrangements are slightly different for gas and electricity.
Electricity
If the supply is off when you are ready to move in we may be able to arrange a next day delivery of your key if necessary (not Sunday). The cut-off for requesting a next day delivery is 4pm. You can also buy a new key for your ScottishPower key meter at selected PayPoint outlets instead of waiting for one to be delivered. This facility is currently only available to customers living in the old ScottishPower and Manweb areas. Our staff will be able to advise if it is available in your area when you call.
If you have the previous tenant’s key, or you have brought your key from your previous address, ScottishPower can provide you with an 8 digit reference number which can be used at a PayPoint outlet or a Post Office, to reset the key with the details of your new account. This will also reset the meter with your correct tariff details and remove any debt settings which were previously set on the meter from the previous tenant.
Gas
If the supply is off when you move in we may be able to arrange an engineer visit to reset the meter and restore the gas supply in your home. Access will be required to your home for this visit.
Please let us know immediately if you receive a bill with the wrong name or address on it. You’re not responsible for paying for energy used by a previous tenant at your address. Please call our Homemover team on 0845 270 7008
