Where to buy credit
How to top up your key or gascard
It’s very easy, just take your key or gas card to your nearest Post Office or Paypoint outlet:
When you buy credit, it charges your key or payment card which you then feed into your meter.
You should only use the key/card provided to you by ScottishPower. If you use anything else, such as a card belonging to someone else, the money may not reach your account and you may build up debt that you’ll have to repay.
Even better, for electricity, why not use our new “In Home Pay As You Go” service? It allows you to top up your key online – no need to leave your home! It’s easy to use, secure and convenient.
How much you can top up
You can top up by any amount from as little as £1 for Gas and £5 for Electricity. Any additional credit can only be added in whole pounds, up to a maximum of £49 per transaction.
Always ask for a receipt, check it says ‘Key Credit Successful’ or ‘Credit Accepted’ and keep it safe. Only use your card or key in your own meter, you can’t use it in any other one.
Remember, your home continues to use electricity – and credit – while you are out of the house, so the credit shown on your meter may be less than you expect when you return after being away from the property.
Be safe! Don’t use your key if it’s damp – and don’t touch the meter with wet hands.
Lost Key or Gas card
If you are unable to buy credit because you do not have your payment device, contact ScottishPower to order a replacement device. You may be charged for a replacement key, so keep it in a clean, dry and safe place when you’re not using it. Our call centre number is 0845 272 1022 - lines are open from 8am to 7pm Monday to Friday and from 8.30am to 1pm on Saturday.
We will either send out a replacement key or gas card to you by first class post or, for an extra charge, we can arrange a next day delivery service (not available on Sundays). For replacement electricity keys, we now have a facility which allows you to purchase a replacement key at selected Paypoint outlets, You still need to contact our call centre staff who will be able to advise you where the nearest suitable outlet is and will give you an 8 digit reference number that you will need to provide to the staff in the Paypoint outlet so they can register your key for you. You will need to take the key back to your property and insert it in the meter to complete the registration process before adding credit to it.
