Price Reduction FAQs

Q. Why is ScottishPower decreasing its gas prices?

A. Recognising the recent reductions in gas wholesale prices, ScottishPower is decreasing its gas prices by an average of 4.8%* from 20th February 2015.

Q. Why haven't ScottishPower decreased its electricity prices?

A. The reductions in our costs of gas, which we purchase in advance, has enabled us to pass a price reduction to our gas customers. There has been minimal movement in the total cost of wholesale electricity at this time. In the competitive market we are in, we're constantly reviewing our prices to ensure they are both competitive and cost reflective.

Q. When did ScottishPower last change household energy prices in Great Britain?

A. ScottishPower last decreased domestic gas & electricity prices by an average of 3.3%† on 31st January 2014.

Q. Do I need to provide a meter reading on the date of the price decrease?

A. No, you don't have to, but providing regular meter readings helps ensure your bill or statement is as accurate as possible. It's easy to submit your reading at any time - simply call our 24 hour, automated line on 0800 027 8000 and have your meter reading and account number handy.

Otherwise, we will estimate your gas and/or electricity energy use on the new prices from 20th February 2015. The energy estimated to be used before this date will be charged at the old prices. Any changes to your gas prices will be displayed on your next bill or statement.

Q. Will my Direct Debit payments go down when the new prices come into effect?

A. Your Direct Debit amount may not change as it is not solely based on your prices. Rather, it is calculated based on a combination of your prices, how much energy we estimate you will use over the year and your account balance at your annual reassessment. Therefore if your energy consumption is increasing, your Direct Debit amount will also need to reflect this.

We review your account regularly to try and ensure your payment stays in line with how much energy you are estimated to use during the year. Please be assured that if your payments need to be adjusted we will notify you before any changes are made to your Direct Debit payments
