FAQs

I have a Power Cut – who should I call?

Please call 105 which will put you through to the local emergency line for your area or visit www.powercut105.com

I have a gas emergency – who do I call?

If you smell gas or are worried about gas safety, call 0800 111 999 (Monday - Sunday. Open 24 hours).

If you smell gas:

  • Open windows and doors to get rid of gas by ventilating the rooms.
  • Don’t touch electrical switches – turning switches on or off can ignite escaping gas.
  • Extinguish all naked flames.
  • Turn off gas at the valve unless the meter is in the basement or cellar – if you smell gas there, evacuate the building.
  • Don’t smoke or strike matches.

How do I arrange for my Electricity supply to be upgraded?

Your first point of call will be your DNO who will need to provide you a quote for the upgrade to your supply.

Once the upgrade has been arranged with the DNO and you have a date for their work to be carried out, contact us to arrange for a new meter to be installed. Contact us on 0800 040 7002 (If you're calling from outside the UK - +44 800 040 7002). Lines are open Monday to Friday 8:30am - 7pm, Saturday 9am - 1pm.

How do I arrange to have my Electricity meter moved?

If you are looking for your meter to be moved up to 3 ft and on the same board contact your supplier who can arrange this.

If you are looking for it to be moved more than 3ft or to a different location please contact your DNO.

How do I arrange to have my Gas meter moved?

Please contact your Gas DNO to arrange a meter move

How do I arrange for my Electricity supply to be disconnected?

If you are looking for a temporary disconnection (e.g. for a renovation to be carried out) contact your supplier who can arrange for the fuses to be removed. Your supply and meter will remain at the property.

When the supply is no longer required you can arrange a permanent disconnection via your DNO. The DNO will send a quote for this work. Once this has been arranged the DNO will then contact your supplier to invite them to remove your meter(s) prior to the disconnection date.

How do I arrange for my Gas supply to be disconnected?

This depends on the size of your gas meter.

Basic Measuring Capacity Meters include U6, U10, U16 and Imperial meters: permanent disconnection of these meters can be arranged by contacting our Business Energy Team free on 0800 040 7002 (If you're calling from outside the UK - +44 800 040 7002). Lines are open Monday to Friday 8:30am - 7pm, Saturday 9am - 1pm. You can also email us at contactus@scottishpower.com

Larger Measuring Capacity Meters include U25, U40 and U65 meters: the request for the permanent disconnection of these meters send your request to gasdisconnections@scottishpower.com and we will provide a quote for the work to be carried out.

How do I arrange for my supply to be reconnected?

This depends on the individual circumstances of the disconnection at the premises. Please contact our Business Energy Team free on 0800 040 7002 (Monday to Friday 8am - 7pm, Saturday 8:30am - 1pm) and we will look into this for you.

If the supply has been disconnected for 12 months or more a safety certificate from your electrician will be required before any work to reconnect will be carried out.

If you have recently taken over responsibility for the premises we may require a copy of your lease or purchase documents prior to arranging a reconnection. A security deposit may be required prior to reconnection.
