If I switch to ScottishPower how does the switching process work?

Applications to switch can be made up to 180 days prior to your requested supply start date. This could give you time to find an available ScottishPower tariff that suits you best before your current contract ends. Our switch process is made up of 4 simple steps:

  • Application: We review your application and check it against the information we receive from your current supplier
  • Registration: We send a request to your current supplier, so that we can start the switch process. This will happen around 4 weeks prior to your requested supply start date
  • Billing Set-up: Once your current supplier has accepted the transfer we'll ask you for your opening meter readings so we can set up your new energy account with us.
  • On Supply: Once your energy account has been set up, we'll officially welcome you as a new ScottishPower customer.

If for any reason there is an issue with your switch we will let you know as soon as possible.

We will be in touch by letter regularly throughout the switch process and you will be given a personalised website where you can track your switch from start to finish.

My current supplier has blocked my switch to ScottishPower. What should I do?

There are a number of reasons a supplier may object to a transfer, such as:

  • Debt on the account
  • No notice of termination provided
  • Application to switch is made too early

Your supplier will be able to provide the details of the objection and how this can be resolved. If you need ScottishPower to amend your application as a result, please contact us and we can update the details and re-submit the switch request where necessary. In some circumstances a new application may be required.

Do you carry out credit checks on Small Business customers?

Yes, Credit checks will be carried out as part of the quote process.

What does ScottishPower need in order to provide me with a quote?

We need your business address, your annual consumption in kWh and your supply number(s) - MPAN for Electricity and MPRN for Gas. You can find all this information on a recent energy bill.

When will I receive my final bill?

Your new supplier will request your opening meter reading on or around your supply start date with them. They will send this to us to allow us to close your account to the same reading and your final bill will be produced when this has been received by us.

Although there can be delays, depedning on when your new Supplier receives or estimates your opening reading, you should receive your final bill 3-4 weeks after your transfer date.

ScottishPower have objected to my transfer. Why?

We will write to you to give you the reason for our objection and details on how you can resolve this with us.
