Grow your business by investing in green upgrades

It’s no secret that one of the smartest ways for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to save hard-earned cash and stay on side with customers is to be conscious of the environment and act sustainably. Despite this, 41% of small business CEOs think that upgrading to energy-smart technology is beyond their financial capabilities.

The great news is that there are initiatives out there, like The Carbon Trust Green Business Fund and SME Loan Fund from the Scottish Government and Resource Efficient Scotland, which give UK SMEs helpful advice and the chance to receive a cash injection to help revamp their energy technology.

63% of UK SMEs consider it important to monitor energy efficiency and more than 63% believe it is important to monitor energy expenditure, however quite shockingly over half of UK businesses still don’t monitor energy usage at all.

The desire to change is there, yet there are barriers preventing businesses from fully investing in a more energy efficient future. Luckily, there are some organisations that can help SMEs push going green to the top of the to-do list.

The Carbon Trust Green Business Fund

This energy efficiency support service provides a number of useful tools, services and even a financial contribution towards energy saving equipment for businesses who want to go green.

Energy assessments can help to identify the opportunities for making savings and The Carbon Trust will help to source suppliers in your area who can provide the technology you need to cut energy use. A series of quick and simple workshops, guides and webinars will help businesses every step of the way.

The financial contribution of up to £5,000 can be used to invest in a variety of technology and systems from lighting to heating or ventilation to help give your business the kick start it needs to become more energy efficient.

Scottish Government and Resource Efficient Scotland SME Loan Fund

The SME Loan initiative has helped Scottish businesses save an estimated £36 million and it could help cut your business’ annual energy consumption by up to 25%, resulting in savings of £8,000 per year on average.

For a limited time the SME Loan by the Scottish Government and Zero Waste Scotland is offering organisations prioritising energy efficiency 30% cashback on loan value if their listed energy efficiency improvements are met, freeing up money to invest in business growth and development.

Your loan can be used to pay for the following green technology upgrades:

  • Heating, ventilation and air conditioning
  • Lighting systems
  • Building fabric
  • Water saving
  • Waste reduction
