About Whitelee Windfarm

Whitelee is the UK's largest onshore windfarm, located on Eaglesham Moor just 20 minutes from central Glasgow. Its 215 turbines generate up to 539 megawatts of electricity, enough to power just under 300,000 homes*.

With more than 130 kilometres of trails to explore, on foot, by cycle or by horse, with free parking and free entry to our onsite Visitor Centre, Whitelee is a great destination for a day out with the whole family.

*298,837 homes per year based on the expected average capacity factor of 27% and an average annual domestic electricity usage of 4,266kWh


Travel by car

Driving directions

FROM NORTH (Glasgow): On the M77 head towards Kilmarnock and leave at Junction 6 (Galston). Follow the brown signs for Whitelee Windfarm Visitor Centre.

FROM SOUTH (Ayrshire): Go on the A77 heading for Glasgow and follow the brown signs for Whitelee Windfarm Visitor Centre (leave A77 at Fenwick/Stewarton exit).

Travel by public transport

Unfortunately the Visitor Centre at Whitelee is not yet part of a designated bus route. If travelling by bus, Eaglesham is the closest village to the windfarm and Visitor Centre. However, please note that you would require private transport (taxi) to get from Eaglesham to Whitelee Windfarm.

The closest train station to Whitelee is in East Kilbride with the nearest station being Hairmyres. However, please note that you would require private transport in order to get from the train station to Whitelee Windfarm.
