Should I be worried?

If your meter’s certification has expired there is no need to worry, it’s not a safety issue, it just means your meter might not be precise. This means your energy bills might not be accurate, and you may be charged more.

What is a smart meter?

As traditional meters are now out of production, all meter upgrades will be smart meters. A smart meter is an advanced version of a traditional gas/electricity meter that automatically sends us readings1 either half-hourly, daily or monthly. If you prefer, you can still submit your own readings, it’s up to you. As we move towards a greener future, traditional energy meters are being phased out and smart meters are being installed in homes across Great Britain at no extra cost to customers.
