EV Optimise is a smart charging solution designed to optimise the charging of your electric vehicle (EV) and lower your charging costs. By allowing ScottishPower to control your EV charging, we’ll make sure that we’re charging at the cheapest and greenest times within your smart charging session⁴. EV Optimise is exclusively available to ScottishPower customers and only works when you charge at home.

Once you have signed up to EV Optimise, you simply set when you need your car charged by, and how much charge you need, and we do the rest! We will connect to your EV and schedule your car charging based on when energy is cheapest and greenest⁴. The savings from these smart charging sessions will be credited to your electricity bill. EV Optimise will not interfere with your charging away from home.

As this is a beta product, occasional issues may arise, but our support team is always ready to assist via the 'Help’ feature in our app. We also welcome feedback to help us improve.

There are no restrictions on when you can charge at our smart charging rate of 10p per kWh¹ as long as smart charging is enabled, your charging preferences have been set and your EV is plugged in at home.

To sign up for EV Optimise, you need to be a ScottishPower customer. You can add EV Optimise to any tariff excluding our EV Saver and Heat Saver tariffs. If you aren’t a ScottishPower customer, you can switch to us here.

To be eligible for EV Optimise, you need a smart meter, a compatible vehicle and any EV charger. You need a single rate meter (excludes 2 rate meters, i.e. Economy 7) and you can’t be a Power Saver customer whilst using EV Optimise. You can find out if your account and home set-up are eligible by filling out the survey at the top of the page. If you’re eligible, we will send you an email with a link to sign up to EV Optimise on the ScottishPower App.

To get started, you will need to have the ScottishPower App installed. We will get in touch when you’re ready to get started. All you need to do is follow the instructions in the app to connect your EV. Once your EV is connected to our system, you’ll need to plug your car in at home so we can confirm your home location, set your charging preferences and then you are all set to go. Remember, this is a beta product, so while our technology is still developing, our team is here to help you with any issues.

Currently EV Optimise supports one vehicle per account. We are working on expanding this feature to support multiple vehicles in the future.

You must disable any charging schedules, timers or settings in your car manufacturer’s app before onboarding as they can interfere with the EV Optimise algorithm and impact your savings. Don’t worry, you can still use your car manufacturer’s app for all the other features they offer. You should not sign up to other third-party EV flexibility services as this may interfere with our algorithm and impact your savings.

We currently don’t support households with rooftop solar or residential battery storage, but we hope this will soon change. If you completed the eligibility survey at the top of this page, we’ll let you know when the product is ready for you. If you override an EV Optimise schedule or disable smart charging, you will not receive the discounted rate for that session.

You will be charged at your normal electricity unit rate for charging your EV. The difference between your normal tariff rate and the smart charge rate of 10p per kWh will be credited back to your account¹. This credit will be shown as a separate line item on your bill, making it easy to see your total savings for each billing period.

The credits for your previous month smart charging sessions are applied by our billing team on the first week of every month. These credits will appear on your next generated bill.

Yes, you can track your savings through the ScottishPower App. Your bill will also include a line item showing the total savings accumulated from your smart charging sessions during each billing period.
