All electricity used will be charged at your normal unit rate based on your ScottishPower tariff. The credit for your EV smart charging session will appear as credit on your bill. Your EV Optimise Credit is calculated as the difference between your normal unit rate (excluding VAT) and the Smart Charging Rate, multiplied by the amount of Smart Charge consumption. The VAT is calculated on your original electricity charges before the EV Optimise Credit is applied, meaning the VAT amount will not reduce in line with the Credit.

The greenest times of day will be when the carbon intensity of the electricity required to charge your EV is at its lowest. This will vary each day depending on a number of factors, including weather conditions, renewable energy generation and demand on the grid.

Monthly cost is based on driving an average of 700 miles per month, achieving 4 miles per kWh and charging your car using EV Optimise at a rate of 8p per kWh. You will be charged at your normal electricity unit rate for your charging session with the EV Optimise credit applied to your bill based on the difference between your normal unit rate (excluding VAT) and the EV Optimise Smart Charging Rate, multiplied by the amount of Smart Charge consumption. Monthly cost will vary depending on miles driven per month, car make and model and driving efficiency.

Savings are based on 4,700 kWh annual electricity usage, considering a typical Ofgem Medium household using 2,700 kWh of household electricity per year, and an electric vehicle driven 8,000 miles annually at an average efficiency of 4 miles per kWh (equal to 2,000 kWh of charging). The savings comparison assumes the same usage in both cases and compares a household on a Standard Variable Tariff (rate of 24.67p as of 1st April 2026) alone, with a household on a Standard Variable Tariff plus EV Optimise, where 2,000 kWh of EV charging is smart charged and credited at 8p/kWh, VAT excluded. Eligibility and T&Cs apply.

To be eligible for the EV Saver tariff you must be a ScottishPower electricity customer, have a single rate smart meter that sends half-hourly readings and pay by monthly Direct Debit. If you are not currently a ScottishPower customer, you can join us on our Standard Variable tariff and then switch to the EV Saver tariff through your online account.
