Yes. We provide free SMETS2 smart meter installations for new connections. These meters support accurate billing, enable half‑hourly data where applicable, and allow customers to access a wide range of smart tariffs and digital services once they move in.

We offer dedicated house builder tariffs with no interim bills issued until a Change of Responsibility is received, for up to four months. Billing is backdated once the billing block is removed, helping developers manage cash flow during construction and handover. Multi‑site agreements are also available for larger developments.

Once a Change of Responsibility is submitted, billing responsibility transfers from the developer to the homeowner. We will then proactively contact the new customer, placing them on a standard variable tariff initially and offering a choice of tariffs, green services and loyalty benefits, with no exit fees if they later switch.

The Distribution Network Operator (DNO) or Independent Distribution Network Operator (IDNO) is responsible for arranging the disconnection of mains connections, and the energy supplier for the meter removal. To arrange this, you will need to contact your DNO/IDNO, providing your full address and postcode, MPAN, meter serial number and contact details.

The DNO/IDNO will schedule the mains disconnection and will also notify the supplier to remove the meter prior to the visit.

With direct instruction from your DNO/IDNO, we will then be able to remove your meter at a charge. You can email electricitydisconnections@scottishpower.com for enquires related to the meter removal.
