Solar panels: generating your own electricity

Solar panels are the starting point. They capture daylight and convert it into electricity, which can reduce your reliance on grid electricity, lower your bills, and help cut carbon emissions.

ScottishPower batteries are designed to work with both new and existing solar systems, with options to expand storage over time as your needs change. So even if your existing solar panels weren’t installed by us, you can still install our batteries as an add-on.

Solar tariffs: making your energy work harder

ScottishPower offers two main ways to maximise value from your solar system:

1. Get paid for electricity you don’t use with SmartGen⁶

The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) encourages people and businesses who generate excess renewable energy to get paid for electricity they export back to the National Grid.

Our SmartGen SEG tariff pays 6p for every kWh you export. We also offer SmartGen Premium for ScottishPower electricity customers, which pays 12p per kWh, as well as SmartGen Premium Plus for ScottishPower electricity customers who installed their solar panels and/or battery with us, which pays 15p per kWh.
