If you’re renting and thinking about changing your energy supplier, start by checking who pays the energy bills at your property. If your landlord covers the energy costs, you’ll need to discuss with them before making any changes. If you’re responsible for the energy bills, you have the option to switch suppliers. However, be sure to review your tenancy agreement before switching as it may contain clauses related to your energy supply.

Your Meter Point Administration Number (MPAN) is a unique number for your electricity supply and your Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN) is a unique number for your gas supply. We use these numbers to locate and manage your energy meters. Your MPAN/MPRN should be detailed in your most recent energy bill. Alternatively, you can contact your current supplier to ask for your MPAN and/or MPRN.

An exit fee is a one-off charge that you may need to pay if you want to leave your energy contract before the end date. Some tariffs have exit fees and others don’t, so make sure you check if the tariff you have selected has any exit fees before signing up.

A standing charge is a fixed daily amount that’s added to your overall energy costs, regardless of how much energy you use and even if your home is empty. For low energy users, the standing charge can make up a significant portion of the bill.

Yes. If you choose the same tariff and payment method for both your gas and electricity, you can manage both fuels through a single account - we call this a dual fuel account. This means that you’ll receive one bill for both gas and electricity and make one payment for both fuels. Your bill will show a breakdown of how much energy you have used for each fuel.

If you manage your account online, you can change your tariff using your online account or the ScottishPower App. If you don’t have an online account, you can register for one here. You can also get in touch with us directly to change your tariff if you’d prefer.

If you manage your account online and would like to switch to Direct Debit, you can easily change your payment method using your online account. If you don’t have an online account, you can register for one here. If you’re a Pay As You Go customer and would like to switch to Direct Debit, or if you already pay by Direct Debit and want to switch to another payment plan, please contact us, and we’ll be happy to help.

The quickest and easiest way to set up your new account is online. However, if your new home has a prepayment meter or if you are having difficulty setting up your account online, please contact us, and we’ll be happy to help.
