What are the eligibility criteria for EV Optimise?

EV Optimise relies on your car having certain technical capabilities (e.g. remote charging control, charge state, and location sharing) available, reliable, and enabled for smart charging to work.

If the app says your car is not supported during sign-up but you believe that’s incorrect, please contact our dedicated Support team for assistance.

You must have a home EV charger to use EV Optimise. Commando and 3-pin plugs are not compatible. To benefit from faster and cheaper charging, you can choose from our range of home chargers online or speak to our experts on 0800 027 0004 Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

Depending on your car model, we may ask you to also link your home EV charger to our platform. This happens when your car does not have all the capabilities we need to smart charge or some of the capabilities are not reliable enough for smart charging. We will prompt you to link your charger if that’s the case when you sign up on the ScottishPower app.

Even when a charger is not necessary to smart charge your car, it can be a good idea to link it to our platform when available to link. Linking a charger can make smart charging more reliable with fewer interruptions during your charging sessions.

You will have the option to link a charger during sign-up. If you skip it, you can add one later from the EV Optimise dashboard > Settings > Add charger.

We can only offer EV Optimise to ScottishPower customers with communicating smart meters. If you don’t have a smart meter, you can book an appointment for a free installation. If your smart meter is not communicating, please reach out to our dedicated Support team for assistance.

If you’re not eligible for EV Optimise, you can still benefit from cheaper overnight rates with our EV Saver tariff, allowing you to charge your EV for cheaper between midnight and 5am.

If you complete our eligibility survey, we will note your interest and will be in touch if EV Optimise becomes compatible with your car and/or account in the future.

BYD cars are more likely to experience occasional connectivity issues due to the manufacturer’s online services. These issues are mainly caused by the occasional instability, slower response times and less frequent data updates from BYD’s API (Application Program Interface).

Please note, there’s a limitation with BYD whereby it only allows one login at a time. This means if you log into your BYD app, it will automatically log you out of EV Optimise. If your car is charging when this happens, it may disconnect from your smart charging session. Your car will still charge, but as your smart charging session has disconnected, you may miss out on the cheaper charging rate and this could affect the credit added to your bill. To avoid this happening, we recommend not using the BYD app whilst a smart charging session is in progress.

Dacia cars are more likely to experience occasional connectivity issues due to the manufacturer’s online services. These issues are mainly caused by the occasional instability, slower response times and less frequent data updates from Dacia’s API (Application Program Interface).

Hyundai cars are more likely to experience occasional connectivity issues due to the manufacturer’s online services. These issues are mainly caused by the occasional instability, slower response times and less frequent data updates from Hyundai’s API (Application Program Interface).

Kia cars are more likely to experience occasional connectivity issues due to the manufacturer’s online services. These issues are mainly caused by the occasional instability, slower response times and less frequent data updates from Kia’s API (Application Program Interface).

Mazda cars are more likely to experience occasional connectivity issues due to the manufacturer’s online services. These issues are mainly caused by the occasional instability, slower response times and less frequent data updates from Mazda’s API (Application Program Interface).

Due to a built-in feature with Mercedes, your car will always charge to 50% battery level before your EV Optimise smart charging schedule is created. But don’t worry, as an EV Optimise customer, we’ll make sure you still get the cheaper charging rate of 10p per kWh during this charge.
