What are the eligibility criteria for EV Optimise?
Find out if your account and home set-up are eligible by filling out our EV Optimise survey. If you’re eligible, we will send you an email with a link to sign up on the ScottishPower App.
If you’re already a ScottishPower customer you can find out if your account and home set-up are eligible by filling out our EV Optimise survey. If you’re eligible, we will send you an email with a link to sign up on the ScottishPower App.
If you aren’t a ScottishPower customer, you can check if your car and home set-up could be eligible if you make the switch by filling out this survey.
To qualify for EV Optimise, you must have:
a live domestic electricity or dual fuel account with ScottishPower
a single-rate tariff i.e. not EV Saver or Heat Saver tariffs
a communicating smart meter that shares half-hourly readings
credit payment i.e. direct debit or on receipt of bill
a single rate meter (excludes two rate meters, i.e. Economy 7)
Your home setup must also include:
- a compatible electric car with a working internet connection
a home EV charger
no solar panels or battery
If you don’t have a smart meter, you can book a convenient appointment.
If you don't have an EV charger, you can choose from our range of home chargers.
If your home setup is not eligible, you can join our EV Saver tariff, allowing you to charge your EV for cheaper between midnight and 5am.
* Please note EV Optimise currently only supports the connection of one car per household. We are working hard with our team to expand this in the future.
Is my car compatible?
EV Optimise smart charging works by connecting to your car and managing its charging. To do this, we need certain capabilities to be available and enabled for your car. You can see a list of compatible car models that we support here.
Useful tips:
- Please check that your car was manufactured in a year that’s supported by EV Optimise as some older models are not compatible. You can check which years are compatible here.
The list of compatible models is based on the capabilities that most vehicles of each model have and will apply to most cars. However, there are some exceptions where certain cars may have been manufactured without a required capability or it’s not available due to a fault. To confirm that your car has the necessary capabilities to enable EV Optimise, you’ll need to sign up and link your car to our platform.
Even if your car supports all required capabilities, it may be that your car has a setting or feature disabled. In that case, once you sign up for EV Optimise, you will see a prompt in the ScottishPower App to enable these features using your car app or in the car itself.
Cars in beta phase
We also have a selection of cars in beta phase. These are cars which are compatible with EV Optimise but are more likely to experience occasional connectivity issues and other limitations due to certain constraints with the car manufacturer’s online services. These issues will differ depending on the car make and model. The car brands currently in beta phase are noted below.
MG
The issues with MG are mainly due to the occasional instability, slower response times and less frequent data updates from MG’s API (Application Program Interface).
Please note, there’s a limitation with the MG app whereby it only allows one login at a time. This means if you log into your MG app, it’ll automatically log you out of EV Optimise.
If your car is charging when this happens, it may disconnect from your smart charging session. Your car will still charge, but as your smart charging session has stopped, you may miss out on the cheaper rate and this could affect the credit added to your bill. To avoid this happening, we recommend not using the MG app whilst a smart charging session is in progress.
Renault
The issues with Renault are mainly due to the occasional instability, slower response times and less frequent data updates from Renault’s API (Application Program Interface).
We closely monitor the performance of the cars in beta phase but we’re always looking to hear from our customers about their experience. If you’d like to give us feedback, you can do so via the EV Optimise Settings screen in the ScottishPower app. If you have further questions about cars in beta phase, you can contact us on 0800 6340 058.
My car is not supported, what are my options?
We are sorry that your car is not compatible with EV Optimise right now. If your car is supported and the model appears on this list but our app says otherwise, you can contact our Customer Support team at EVOptimiseSupport@scottishpower.com.
We are continuously working with our third-party supplier to expand the list of EVs we support and hope to support your car in the future. By completing the eligibility form, we have noted your set-up and will be in touch once we have the capability.
In the meantime, you can get cheaper overnight charging rates with our EV Saver tariff, allowing you to charge your EV for cheaper between midnight and 5am.
I’m not currently a ScottishPower customer. How do I get access to smart charging?
The EV Optimise add-on is exclusively available to ScottishPower customers (excluding those on the EV Saver or Heat Saver tariffs).
Not a ScottishPower customer yet? You can switch to us. If you’re switching to ScottishPower, you’ll need to wait until your energy supply and online account is fully set up before accessing EV Optimise.
You can check if your car and home set-up could be eligible on our survey.
